What is an incubator?

An incubator offers a dynamic process for the development of people, business and companies, providing entrepreneurs with active and customised management support, financial, technical and commercial networks, and a creative growth environment with associated office services. The incubator can be a tool to create strong new companies that develop new ideas and new technologies. As a result, it can help create new jobs, act as a foundation for companies in high-growth sectors, which in the future will generate jobs and business renewal.

What is a science park?

Science parks are stimulating and stimulating environments that offer infrastructure, networking and business development to knowledge-intensive growth companies. A science park can be described as a meeting place for people, ideas, knowledge and creativity, and often provides a platform for major innovation and development projects. The science park is often closely linked to a neighbouring university or college.

Membership

Membership of the association can be granted to incubators and science parks, both established and those under development. Applications for membership are sent to the Board of Directors, which has the Association’s mandate to approve or reject the application.

The Governing Board has the right to revise membership if necessary.

Full member

A full membership can be granted to organisations that meet a certain set of criteria consistent with the IASP definition of science parks (STP) and/or the NBIA definition of business incubators.

Associate Member

Associate membership can be granted to organisations working in the same field as the other members, but with a structure that does not follow the full set of criteria. Instead, an associate member must be considered to bring new value to a science park function or a business incubator as well as to co-operate with one or more geographically close members of the association.

Associate members have the right to attend and express their opinion at meetings of the association. However, they do not have the right to participate in the decision-making of the association.

New science parks and business incubators that do not yet fulfil the full set of criteria can be offered associate membership until they do.
