Transition programme

Omställningslyftet is a national initiative to facilitate business-driven climate transition for small and medium-sized enterprises. The core of Omställningslyftet is business-oriented guidance to create sustainable, competitive and future-proof business.

System innovation for more sustainable cities

In Omställningslyftet, SISP runs the project “The city as a hub for green and digital transition”. Together with our Swedish cities, civil society and business, we are exploring how system innovation can contribute to a local green transition.

The green transition is a major challenge but can also bring new opportunities. For our cities to succeed in the green transition, new and accessible solutions to concrete challenges are needed. This will involve systemic changes that are necessary to solve critical climate challenges. How can municipalities use new and practical approaches to transform their cities to become greener and more digital? How can small and innovative businesses contribute to this transition? How can we understand climate challenges and solutions from a systems perspective?

Omställningslyftet is a joint initiative from the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth, RISE, SISP, Energikontoren Sverige, IUC, IVL and SuPr, which is part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The city as a hub for green and digital transformation

Within the framework of Omställningslyftet, the sub-project “The city as a hub for green and digital transition” is underway, which aims to develop new practical approaches to working with system innovation for local, green transition. To tackle a city’s climate challenges, we need to visualise different types of systems and map needs in order to connect need owners with innovators who together produce and develop solutions for a green transition. We use the city as a hub to identify the most important local challenges in the green transition and identify which SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) can offer the innovation required for the city to be able to achieve its climate goals and understand what solutions are missing today.

Methodology

  • To create the required shift, we are activating cities that have both the will and the ability to work both strategically and practically towards a local green transition.
  • Then, together with the cities, we identify the needs of the green transition and connect a system of SMEs/startups/scaleups with solutions that match the cities’ needs.
  • In this way, we make innovation accessible while creating efficiency and effectiveness in the local and green transition.
