Siish – Innovation in healthcare

Open for all

Healthcare needs more effective solutions and more innovation to help patients achieve better health.
That’s why Sweden’s seven university hospitals and their surrounding innovation offices and
incubators have joined forces with their combined capacity in the Siish project. The project aims to accelerate the implementation of innovation in Swedish healthcare.

The background to the project is clear: the pressure on healthcare is constantly increasing, while resources are decreasing. New innovative products and methods are part of the solution to the problem. But the time from identifying a need to deploying a new quality-assured solution is too long. There is a strong need to accelerate the introduction of innovative products and solutions into the healthcare system in a safe and quality-assured way.

For Siish to succeed, collaboration is key. In the spring of 2022, a feasibility study was carried out to identify success factors and barriers to innovation in healthcare. Participants included managers and those responsible for innovation in healthcare, together with stakeholders from research and innovation offices at higher education institutions, science parks, incubators and holding companies.

All Siish work is based on the six areas of need identified in the comprehensive feasibility study:

  • Committed leadership that sets goals and resources for innovation work.
  • Effective pathways for collaboration between healthcare, business and research.
  • Anchored innovation strategies and processes in the health sector.
  • Increased knowledge of regulations such as procurement rules and health data rules
  • for example, in companies with the potential to benefit healthcare.
  • Increased knowledge of public and private actors about the elements of the innovation process
  • and improved co-operation between stakeholders.
  • Changing culture to increase interest and willingness to adopt innovations.

By the end of the project in December 2025, significant progress will have been made in all areas.

Siish is looking forward to telling you more, both about the project and about the involvement of the incubators. Siish is also keen to get your input on how we can share information and knowledge with other incubators.

Welcome to an interesting digital lunch!
