Vinnova submits the annual report for the national incubator programme to the Ministry of Climate and Business Affairs

Today, Vinnova submits the annual report for the National Incubator Programme (NIP) to the Ministry of Climate and Business Affairs – a programme that has now existed for over 20 years and where SISP collects data from the companies that are incubated.

– Some insights that I find interesting are that we see companies coming to market faster right now, probably because of AI. It’s quicker to build and quicker to get customers, as shown by the increasing turnover of incubator companies. So while investments are falling, revenues are rising. Overall, the incubator companies are stronger than the baseline when the wind blows, our comparisons show. Our incubators provide important support, which may be particularly important during a recession,” says Jonas Michanek, VP Incubation at SISP.

The three largest sectors in the National Incubator Portfolio this year

  1. Life science
  2. Software & ICT
  3. Industrial technology

Fewer companies – but higher turnover
The 2024 portfolio consists of 669 companies, slightly smaller than in previous years but with among the highest turnover ever.

Deep tech continues to grow
29% of business ideas are deep tech, a clear increase from the previous year. In total, 161 companies in the portfolio are deep tech, and investments in these are increasing in all forms.

The number of companies raising capital is stable but the rounds are getting smaller.

The business community is getting involved
Higher deal flow from the business community shows a stronger interaction between incubators and industry.
