Meet our new colleague Jonathan – serial entrepreneur with a passion for innovation, tech and AI

With seven startups under his belt, several of which originated from universities, Jonathan Ahlbom has solid experience of realising ideas and building companies. Now he is taking the step into Sweden's innovation ecosystem in the role of technical specialist for data and AI within Swedish Startup Nation and SISP.

Welcome Jonathan! What attracted you to this particular position?

– The opportunity to contribute to Sweden’s innovation ecosystem on a broad front! I have been active in the startup world for a long time and been on the other side of the ecosystem. This role gives me the chance to share that experience and support more entrepreneurs at a time when innovation is creating amazing opportunities.

How would you describe your view of your role in relation to the SSN project and the role of SISP nationally?

– In SSN, I will support with technical expertise to build the platform and database. In SISP, I hope that my technology and business development experience around startups and innovations will come in handy. I also believe that my knowledge of AI and robots can contribute to different parts. It is a very exciting time now where AI and humanoid robots are changing the way we work and live in society.

You have previous experience in your own companies/startups – how do you bring that into your new role?

– Running and scaling startups is my home turf. I have been a founder, co-founder and intrapreneur in 7 companies, several accelerator programmes, one spin-off from KTH and one from Uppsala University. I have raised capital in several rounds, both nationally and internationally, and made two exits. This has given me a deep understanding of the entire journey – from idea and business development to capital, team building and exit – as well as a strong sense of what it takes for innovations to actually succeed.

What are you most looking forward to doing in relation to SSN in the future?

– Building interfaces and structures that visualise the importance of startups and scaleups in Sweden.

– Experienced renovator of houses, flats and anything else you can build with a hammer and nails.
