Funding Swedish Startups - a joint and crucial effort!

Welcome to a grab-your-lunch roundtable session at GoWest, where we will present and discuss the state of Sweden's startup scene, with a focus on capital and investments for startups to grow.

Welcome to a grab-your-lunch roundtable session where we will present and discuss the state of Sweden's startup scene. Sweden has a golden opportunity to become a World leader in impact and sustainable innovation. But what will it take? Is Sweden really best in class when it comes to conditions for startups?

A new report (in Swedish) shows that we are lagging behind other countries in both policies, regulations and other crucial factors for innovative startups to grow. Funding, or the lack of it, is one of six identified key factors in the report. Swedish Incubators & Science Parks (SISP) invites you to discuss what we need to do to create the best conditions for Swedish startups to grow on a global market.

Topics for discussion

  • Capital is required for a startup to grow, but Swedish startups and scaleups currently experience a lack of both public and private capital in critical phases. International venture capital only reaches a few companies, which is problematic, and Sweden misses out on growth potential and green transition. What can we do about it?
  • How do we make both Swedish governmental and private capital more accessible? How do we improve the collaboration between governmental and private capital?
  • How do investors become more daring and willing to invest in companies in unknown technologies (ex deeptech)? How does public venture capital become more inclined to take risks and be long-term, especially in connection with deeptech?
  • What do other countries do that Sweden can learn from when it comes to tax reductions, incentives, etc.?
